Today's Scripture: Psalm 80

The Thursday that my classmates and I found out we would be absent from school was a rough time. I was extremely upset, not just because the world is dealing with a serious pandemic, but more because my senior prom, my senior baseball season, my graduation were all in jeopardy. The moments one waits for since they have started school were possibly gone, just like that. I was angry at God for putting me in this situation. I saw no hope, nothing to look forward to. Then I thought to myself…really? People are losing their lives due to this virus and I am more worried about myself.

So instead of feeling sorry for myself and being angry at God, I realized now is the time when we need God more than ever. So I opened up my Bible, and checked my text messages for my daily scripture that my small group leader sends every day. Psalm 80. I read this Psalm and began to cry out these words to God from verses 17-19: “ Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand, the son of man you have raised up for yourself. Then we will not turn away from you; revive us, and we will call on your name. Restore us, God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved.”

In these times, it is easy to feel like the world is against us and God is absent from us. The truth is, from this time at home, I have found time for revival in the spirit of God like the Psalm says. I think God has allowed this virus to sweep our nation, to remind us of his great power. To remind us that he is always there to revive us, restore us, and shine on us like he has in the past. God will save us from these difficult times.

Pastor Jerry always refers to many of the members of our church body as our Senior Saints and I love that. They have given so much to the ZPC community, and have so much wisdom to share. I pray that they are continuing to stay safe in this difficult time. However, I joked with my mom that the graduating class of 2020 are also senior saints, just in a different sort of way. So today, I encourage you to take the words above to heart, from a class of 2020 senior saint.

Prayer:

Lord,
Let us not grow weary in these difficult times. Let us know that you have a plan for each and every one of us. We pray for all of those in the medical field working long hours to keep our world safe. We pray for those who have been afflicted with the virus, or those who have loved ones who are fighting the virus. Lord, let us remember your power and revival, and to know that you will restore us soon.
In your name we pray.
Amen.
