Focusing on God

About the author: Ava is a senior at Zionsville High School. Outside of cross country and show choir, she loves spending time outdoors with friends, family, and her dogs. Whether attending morning service, HSM, bible study, or helping with this year’s Awakening, Ava is so grateful for all the amazing mentors that have guided her in her faith, and for all the friendships she has made at ZPC!

And the Peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7

This busy time of year can be filled with stress from finals, jobs, and deadlines. It is so easy to be distracted from the true meaning of Christmas when we are worried about the outcome of these things. Think about what in your life has been weighing you down and occupying your mind.

Although it is important to do our best at school or in our jobs, peace comes when we can refocus our priorities to serving and worshipping the Lord. Praying to God during times of stress is a simple way to rely on him for strength.

During this season, it is also so beneficial to seek out God with others. Setting aside time for a small group or Bible study allows for a break from the busyness of the season. How else can you mentally break away from the stresses of the world to refocus on God?

Today's verse provides comfort and allows us to understand that God’s love is greater than all our troubles, and he can help us during stressful situations.

Activity

Listen to worship music on your way to work, or school (for example) to remind yourself that God is a part of all aspects of our lives. Music can set intention, and bring reassurance.

Prayer

Thank you, Lord, for all our gifts that you have given us that keep our lives busy. During this exciting time of year, help us to remain focused on our relationship with you. Thank you for giving us peace, and for protecting us from the anxieties we feel. Your love is with us always. Amen!
