Come Thou Long Expected Jesus | Week 2
December 8, 2024 | Addie Wood
Second Sunday in Advent | JOY
Come thou long expected Jesus.
We await your return.
Like a flower awaiting the rise of the sun, there is joy in the anticipation of what is to come.
Your faithfulness,
in fulfilling promises long ago foretold,
shows a mirth beyond our understanding.
And yet, as you walk next to us, you don’t make us feel small or worthless.
The God who formed the universe in all its complexities and all that inhabits it reaches out his hand for us to live, and move, and have our being with him. This perspective should fill us with joy.
We are reminded that when the angel told the shepherds of the great news of the birth of Jesus, that it would “cause great joy for all the people.”
May we be the people of whom this joy permeates and dwells and may we be the people who share this joy with the world.
May we be confident in the will of our Great God --- as he sent his Son so that we could, again, dwell with him as he has drawn near to dwell with us --- that he will fulfill his promise that we may “dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
