Come Thou Long Expected Jesus

First Sunday in Advent - HOPE

LISTEN

Come thou long expected Jesus.
We await your return.
Yet in our waiting we often falter and our lamps burn out. Our doubts accumulate and so we stop lighting the wicks.
Have mercy on me, oh Lord. Have mercy on us, oh God. Have mercy on this world for your sake.

You have offered us redemption from the pit of destruction. You have reached down from on high and into our very lives to deliver us from evil and our own sin. With hope, let us proclaim of your mighty deeds, which are more than can be told. Let us lift our faces toward You --- our Great God who is holy, who is mighty, who is creator and sustainer, our Savior. The one who walks right next to us --- Emmanuel. God with us.

As the psalmist says, Let your Word be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. And so as we continue to wait, with hope, we say “Come thou long expected Jesus.”

We need Him. We have great hope that He is, has been, and will continue to be our Emmanuel. And so while He has come and while we also await His return, let us rejoice as we say, ”come thou long expected Jesus”
